Billing via ERGO legal expenses insurance
If you have legal expenses insurance with ERGO, ERGO covers the costs of legal disputes. Depending on the insurance contract, this includes your own and the opposing party’s legal fees, court fees, expert fees, witness fees, and any other procedural costs.
If ERGO provides legal expenses coverage, Harlander & Partner Rechtsanwälte GmbH bills all costs covered by the insurance contract directly with the legal expenses insurer.

Process with ERGO legal expenses insurance
Free initial consultation
The first step in handling a legal matter with ERGO legal expenses insurance is a free, non-binding initial consultation. This takes place conveniently via video conference or telephone. This means ERGO policyholders can always speak with an expert at short notice.
As part of the initial consultation for ERGO policyholders, we clarify whether we can take on the matter. Our attorneys have a broad range of specialisations. However, there are cases we cannot cover. In such cases, we will be happy to recommend another specialist.
Power of Attorney
In the next step, we will send you the power of attorney. It already includes the note that, as the first action, a coverage request will be submitted to ERGO and that we will wait for the confirmation of coverage before commencing any fee-based work.
Request for coverage
After receiving the power of attorney and the initial information about the matter, we submit a coverage request to ERGO legal expenses insurance based on this information. This service is also free for ERGO policyholders, even if legal expenses coverage is declined.
Confirmation of coverage
If coverage is confirmed, ERGO legal expenses insurance will cover the costs of the legal dispute to the extent provided for in the insurance contract. Often, there are small deductibles or a limitation of reimbursement to out-of-court or court costs.
Billing
Where possible, billing is handled directly with ERGO insurance, so that policyholders do not have to submit reimbursement applications.
