Definition of Holographic Mark

A holographic mark is a trademark consisting of elements with holographic features. Holograms are three-dimensional representations of objects on a two-dimensional surface with a sense of depth. Holograms often have a silvery, iridescent surface.

Registration

For the registration of a holographic mark, it may be necessary to include a description of the mark in addition to its representation.

The representation of the holographic mark, including its iridescent surface, can be provided in an MP4 file on a data carrier, depicting the subject of protection in a film-like manner. Another option is a two-dimensional graphic representation on paper or in a JPEG file on a data carrier.

Example

Holographic marks are very rare. In 2020, a total of only 18 holographic marks were registered across all trademark registers participating in TMVIEW.

An example of a holographic mark is Arkopharma’s hologram, which includes the text “PLANETE SYSTEM FRANCE” and 4 circles, and is presented as a silver-colored relief on violet holographic paper with horizontal reflections.
