Anyone who wants to advertise for motor vehicles must, in particular, observe the Passenger Car Consumer Information Act. It obliges the advertiser to inform the consumer about the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of motor vehicles. Therefore, in particular, all advertising materials must contain the official fuel consumption values and the official specific CO2 emissions values of the respective model.

There are special provisions for the print sector regarding advertising for motor vehicles. Accordingly, the information on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions values must be easily legible and must not be less prominent than the actual advertising message. Even when reading only fleetingly, the information must be easily understandable.

Anyone who violates the provision of consumer information commits an administrative offense and must expect a fine of up to EUR 4,000.00.
