SKUS Guidelines for Skiers and Snowboarders

The Swiss Commission for Accident Prevention on Snow Sport Slopes (SKUS), in agreement with the snowboard associations, has created further specific rules in addition to the FIS rules and the POE Slope Regulations Draft, which snowboarders must also observe.

The SKUS rules represent a code of conduct, the non-compliance of which, in the event of an accident, constitutes fault.

The tobogganer must take into account the dangers of tobogganing through a controlled driving style adapted to the terrain and his abilities. He must drive with visibility and maintain the necessary safety distances.

These rules have not yet been mentioned in Austrian case law. However, a disregard of the duties of care documented in these rules can undoubtedly lead to criminal liability and liability under civil law in the event of a snowboard accident and the resulting damage to property or personal injury.
