However, legally imposed fines or prison sentences do not have to be assumed, as these expire with death. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-steuerliche-pflichten-fur-erben\">Tax Obligations for Heirs<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although inheritance tax was abolished in Austria in 2008, <strong>relevant tax cooperation obligations still exist<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-grunderwerbsteuer\">Real Estate Transfer Tax<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heirs who receive real estate are subject to real estate transfer tax. The capital gain is calculated from the difference between the sales proceeds and the acquisition costs (possibly as a lump sum).
